Pierre Cardon, CFA, is responsible for external fund management activities within the Banking Department of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), in Basel, Switzerland. As part of his position at BIS, he serves as secretary to the pension fund committee. Pierre leads a team that advises central banks and official institutions on reserve management issues and coordinates the Asian Bond Fund initiative aimed at developing local bond markets. During his more than 25 years at BIS, Pierre has been instrumental in expanding BIS Banking activities mainly by establishing an asset management business and developing BIS’s capital market operations. In parallel, he was elected for a maximum of two terms on the CFA Institute Board of Governors from 2006 to 2012, and is an advisory committee member of the European Pension Fund Investment Forum. Pierre holds an MA in economics from the University of Louvain-la-Neuve in Belgium, and an MBA from the University of Chicago.A charterholder since 1992. He is a founding member of the Swiss CFA Society, served on its board for 10 years, 3 of which as president.
